While my family was wondering where to go for a short-term vacation until the day after President's Day, my friend asked to go to a retreat at their church, so the whole family went to the Spruce Lake Retreat Center in Pocono.
I think it's about an hour and 40 minutes from Fort Lee where I live.
Since it was a Sunday, we left the church at around 3 pm on the 19th. Because it is said there was nowhere to buy and eat inside...
With about 30 minutes left, we had a quick hamburger at Wendy's in East Stroudsburg.
The destination is a kind of youth retreat. There are quite a few lodges on very large grounds.
Among them, we stayed at the largest Spruce lodge.
The restaurant in this lodge is the only one in this retreat center.
The restaurant seemed to be open only to those who had made a reservation in advance.
Meals are buffet style, not fancy, but still clean and not bad considering typical American food standards.
(However, the watered orange juice on the last morning was very disappointing.)
We arrived on the evening of the 19th and were provided with 2 nights, 3 meals on the 20th, and breakfast on the 21st, for a total of $557, so it's not a bad price.
The standard of accommodation was not bad, and since we were a family of 5, we were assigned a 3-bedroom. (2 twins, 1 queen)
In addition, we said that we have a 1-year-old child, so they put in an extra mat and another cradle.
However, I saw some very small ants.
I don't really hate ants that much, so that was fine, but my wife hates them very much.
Eating and drinking are prohibited at the accommodation, and they are allowed only in a separately rented meeting room.
Coffee and hot water are provided in the lobby of the accommodation, and a donation was recommended.
It was a package that also included an artificial rock climbing activity
I also paid only money for group reservations, so I don't know the exact amount for each.
It seemed that zip lines and other activities were also operating.
It took about 20 minutes on foot from the accommodation to the artificial rock climbing site.
The kids' favorite was the game room on the right side of the lodge.
Various board games, chess, table tennis, billiards, etc. are available.
However, please note that each play, except for board games, requires payment of a quarter.
This concludes our visit to the Spruce Lake Retreat Center located in Pocono.
